Thonglor (Sukhumvit 55 and adjacent streets), which is sometimes written Thong Lor or Thong Lo, is one of the most upscale and exciting areas in Bangkok. It holds the city’s highest concentration of open-air small-scale shopping centers (also called “community malls”), quality restaurants and bars. Nowhere else are new restaurants and fancy shops burgeoning like in Thonglor.
It is as popular with wealthy Thais as with expats (large European, Japanese and Korean communities), as well as businessmen and tourists, resulting in a high concentration of upmarket serviced apartments and hotels (Centre Point, Marriott, Somerset, Pan Pacific, etc.), but also a few attractive guest houses for smaller budgets.
Thonglor often gets crowded in the evening and on weekends. It is also famous for its high-end nightlife (cocktail bars, jazz bars, clubs, etc.).
