Relocating to Bangkok is not just about finding a new home that matches your needs.
It is, first and foremost, about picking the right area for you and your family.
One interesting aspect of the Bangkok rental market is that prices don’t vary that much from one area to another. As opposed to other Asian capitals such as Hong Kong and Singapore, where some hyper-central areas are out of reach for most expats, nothing will prevent you from living in the much-hyped Thonglor area or in the prestigious Lumphini area if you desire.
You will likely pay more for a high-rise condo in Rajadamri (perhaps the most exclusive business and residential area in town) than in Ekkamai or Phrakhanong (following the Sukhumvit Road east). The real difference in rental prices comes from the building itself - its age, facilities and standards.
Wherever you decide to settle down in Central Bangkok*, commute times won’t exceed 40-45 minutes unless you work outside the center.
Feel free therefore to look for an area that really resembles you. Some expats prefer high-rise condos and a real urban feel, some prefer a greener and more secluded way of life. You can find it all in Bangkok, but not necessarily in the same neighborhood.
Also, make sure that the areas you’re looking for have easy access to your chosen schools, or at least are on the route of the school bus – you can contact us for more information. Being close to an international hospital may also play an important role in your decision.
Access to housing options and the way of life (shopping, supermarkets, dining, nightlife, public parks, etc.) will vary a lot from an area to another.
